The largest media company in the world has fallen victim to hackers… And it’s not looking good for the streaming service that launched less than a week ago.

If you have young children at home, chances are you’ve heard that Disney just launched a streaming service for their television shows and classic movies, calling it Disney Plus. There’s just one problem. With all the hype surrounding such a unique and attractive streaming service, hackers decided to have some fun too. In the past week, they’ve broken into thousands of user accounts, using recycled logins and passwords that are easily accessible on the dark web. They then changed user’s passwords, re-directed email accounts, and locked users out of their accounts before putting the data up for sale on the dark web for an average of $3-$11 an account.

So how do you ensure that your logins and passwords aren’t available on the dark web? As you may have guessed, it’s hard to prevent. The easiest way to protect yourself is by using a password manager which hosts strong, individual passwords for each account you manage.

No matter the size of the company, anyone can be targeted. It’s easy to think you’ll never be breached, but what this recent incident shows us is that many of us have already been breached and we don’t even know about it.
